More about The Statue of Liberty

This is the Statue of Liberty. She came by a ship to New York in June 1885. She came in 350 pieces and it took four months to put all the pieces back together. October 28 1886 was the date when all the people in New York had a parade to welcome her.

Frederic Bartholdi is the Statue of liberty’s proud sculptor. He copied his mothers face for the statue. It took nine years to build the statue. The construction of the statue began in Paris in 1875, it was completed in 1884 and it arrived in the US in 1885. As you may know, the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to America to celebrate the American Independence. A very odd    but obvious detail is that the Statue of Liberty has chains around her feet. The chains symbolize the United States wishing to be free from slavery.

The Statue of Liberty stands in the New York harbor on Liberty Island. She’s 46 meters and 2,5 centimeters tall. When America got the Statue of Liberty from France, she was shiny and still had the colour of copper. But now, she has turned into green as the time has gone by.

The stone in the hands of the Statue of Liberty is not a book, but it does bear the inscription "July IV MD CCL XXVI." In Roman numerals, this means July 4, 1776, the date of the final signing of the Declaration of Independence.
